Chris Judd’s Hyundai i40 raises over $30,000 for The Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation

Gillian and Robert Archer with Chris Judd and their new carWe are pleased to present the following Hyundai Media Release concerning the recent auctioning of Chris Judd’s car

Media Release

Warragul Grandmother of 16, and lifelong Carlton supporter, Gillian Archer successfully won the bid to buy Chris Judd’s Hyundai i40. Working in collaboration with Carlton Football Club, Chris Judd and eBay, Hyundai was able to raise $31,001 for the Steven Walter’s Children’s Cancer Foundation through the auctioning of Juddy’s car.

The eBay auction page was viewed by 11,000 users, with 45 people trying to outbid each other for right to own Juddy’s Hyundai i40. With the auction ending during the blockbuster Carlton vs. Essendon match, eBay bids spiked during the first quarter with Gillian eventually coming out on top.

Further supporting the Steven Walter’s Children’s Cancer Foundation, Hyundai also committed to donating an additional $1,000 for every goal kicked by Carlton against Essendon during the match on Saturday 24th August.  9 goals were scored but Hyundai increased the donation amount to $15,000 making a total of over $46,000, so the Carlton loss was certainly not in vain.

“We had a look at the i40 and were very impressed. My children and I are big Carlton supporters so this persuaded us, and what a wonderful way to be able to support a charity and make someone else happy,” said Gillian Archer, the winner bidder. “My daughter has a Hyundai ix35 and loves it, and her twin girls also own Hyundai’s so we knew it was the right purchase.”

All the funds donated by Hyundai will go to a very important psych-oncology research program at the Children’s Cancer Centre, Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.

“This program aims to improve the psychological and quality of life outcomes for children with cancer and their families and includes support at diagnosis, during treatment, survivorship and palliative care,” said Sue Walter, founder of The Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Hyundai and Carlton Football Club are very proud to be supporting such a worthy cause.

Gillian not only receives Chris Judd’s personal Hyundai i40 Sedan, but additionally:

  • An engraved signature plate on the vehicle’s dash
  • A signed Chris Judd Guernsey – actually worn by Juddy in a match
  • Free scheduled Hyundai servicing for the first two years
  • A $2,000 gift certificate to spend on genuine Hyundai accessories

Additional Information

Hyundai and Carlton FC:

  • Hyundai has been a major sponsor of the Carlton Football Club since 1995
  • Captain of Carlton FC Chris Judd has been a Hyundai ambassador for over four years
  • Hyundai has been a supporter of the Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation for the past four years

Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation:

The Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation’s mission is kids seeing a 100% survival of childhood cancer through funding childhood cancer research.

The Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation (SWCCF) originated in 2001 as the Steven Walter Fund and was incorporated in March 2008 as part of a strategic plan to develop a significant long term fundraising capacity to benefit childhood cancer research in Australia. The origins of SWCCF lay in the wishes of Steven Walter, a young man who died in 2000 at the age of 19 after an 8 year fight against cancer. In his final days Steven wrote a powerful letter to his family and friends asking them to raise money for childhood cancer research “so that one day no other kid would have to go through what I’ve been through”.
