A Tribute to John Farrugia

Snowy Ride regular and long-time friend of Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation, John Farrugia, was farewelled Friday 11 May 2013 by over 500 family and friends at St Christopher’s church Panania. John, like Steven Walter, was a member of Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club and over the years attended many Snowy Rides with friends and family in tow – reportedly always raving about how much fun it was!

Sadly due to being diagnosed with cancer in September 2012 John missed last year’s Snowy Ride.  Still, John held The Snowy Ride and The Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation in such high regard that John’s wife Margaret asked for no flowers at his funeral, rather that all money be donated to The Foundation.

After John’s farewell Margaret and brother Mark visited Susan Walter with a donation of $1,200 that had been collected at John’s funeral. From everyone at The Foundation and all of John’s fellow Snowy Riders – thank you. Thank you for supporting our goal of 100% survival of all kids with cancer.

As John’s brother Mark said of John’s Journey,

The sadness is overshadowed by the fact that he is now in a much better place where he can ride the twisties forever, where there are no red lights and the road is smooth. God has a garage full of Ducati’s waiting for ya to ride, brother.

On Saturday 18 May, Team Farrugia held the “Farrugia Family Benefit” in support of John’s wife Marg and children Jack (3 years) and Emma (18 months) – it was a great night and a huge success being a total sell out! Everyone at The Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation and John’s fellow Snowy Riders send love and support to you all. We hope the memories you have and the support you receive will keep you strong now and forever.

Rest in peace doesn’t seem fitting for a man who rode a Ducati – so, John give it a squirt for all of us!

Photos used with permission from John’s wife Margaret.  You can see more photos of John at the Facebook page – John’s Journey. Margaret has also advised that if people still wish to donate from the funeral they can do so at the Snowy Ride donation page and be sure to put John’s name as who you are donating on behalf of.

An oldie but a goodie – here is John at an Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club event with a familiar looking guy… is that Mr Allan McGuirk, General Manager of The Snowy Ride??
